On February 25 within a giant tent situated along the coastline of Santa Monica, California the 27th Annual Independent Spirit Awards were presented for broadcast over the Independent Film Channel (IFC). The following films in Merrick Library's DVD collection were honored at that ceremony:
"Beginners" - Best Supporting Male Actor (Christopher Plummer)
"50/50" - Best First Screenplay (Will Reiser)
"Take Shelter" - Piaget Producer's Award (Sophia Lin)
"Margin Call" - Best First Feature (J.C. Chandor, director) and Robert Altman Award (best director/cast ensemble pairing)
