An Acting Great.....

Richard Griffiths, the portly British actor best known for playing grumpy Uncle Vernon Pursley in the Harry Potter movie series died March 28 at age sixty-five. Griffiths'  association with Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe began with "The Sorcerer's Stone" in 2000 and reached its height when the two actors starred in a 2007 revival of the Peter Shaffer drama "Equus" at London's National Theatre.  Griffiths received critical acclaim for his role as the inspiring General Studies teacher Douglas Hector in the stage and 2006 film versions of Alan Bennett's play "The History Boys." American honors included the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for best actor.  Long a favorite on TV in his native England, Griffiths' 1994-97 detective series "Pie in the Sky" has recently been aired on Long Island's WLIW/21.
