Okay all you Girl on the Trainer's...

Paula Hawkins CreditIllustration by Jillian Tamaki

The author of “The Girl on the Train”steers away from a couple of popular genres: “I have (shamefully) never read any sci-fi, and I tend to avoid horror because I’m a wimp.”
What books are currently on your night stand?
“As If,” by Blake Morrison; “The Underground Railroad,” by Colson Whitehead; Virginia Woolf’s “A Writer’s Diary.” I’m also listening to the audiobook of “A Brief History of Seven Killings,” by Marlon James.

In case you think we missed It...

Stephen King's, scary novel, It, just celebrated it's 30th anniversary.

Which is shocking since I actually remember when It hit the shelves.

And I don't think It was thirty years ago.
But okay, fine. If you insist.

In light of the anniversary, here's news you can use!

A reboot of the 1990 TV miniseries
will be released in September of 2017.
Remember Pennywise? Your favorite dancing clown? Ahem.

Andres Muschietti (Mama), is set to direct and Bill Skarsgard has the daunting task of
breathing new life into Pennywise.
No easy feat after Tim Curry's version!

Then there's this terrific piece from the Los Angeles Review of Books that may find you re-reading this classic yourself!

"The Book of Unknown Americans"
by Cristina Henriquez

Named a New York Times and Washington Post Notable Book, an NPR Great Read, The Daily Beast's Novel of the Year, and a Mother Jones,, School Library Journal, and BookPage Best Book of the Year

When fifteen-year-old Maribel Rivera sustains a terrible injury, the Riveras leave behind a comfortable life in Mexico and risk everything to come to the US so that Maribel can have the care she needs. Once they arrive, it’s not long before Maribel attracts the attention of Mayor Toro, the son of one of their new neighbors, who sees a kindred spirit in this beautiful, damaged outsider.
Their love story sets in motion events that will have
profound repercussions for everyone involved.

Henríquez seamlessly interweaves the story of these star-crossed lovers,
and of the Rivera and Toro families, with the testimonials of men and women who have come to the United States from all over Latin America.
A novel of what it means to be American.
