The 2nd Day of Horror...

From the fictional land of Carcosa that inspired the HBO show True Detective this collection features some of the most legendary landscapes of the cosmic horror genre.
The collection includes the following authors:
Edgar Allan Poe,  Bram Stoker, Ambrose Bierce,
R. W. Chambers,  M. P. Shiel,  Arthur Machen,
Algernon Blackwood, Henry James,
Walter de la Mare, H. P. Lovecraft.
Masters ALL!

"The true weird tale has something more than a secret murder, bloody bones, or a sheeted form clanking chains. An atmosphere of breathless and unexplainable dread of outer, unknown forces must be present; a hint of that most terrible conception of the human brain--a malign and particular suspension or defeat of those fixed laws of Nature which are our only safeguard against the assaults of chaos and the daemons of unplumbed space."--H. P. Lovecraft"

Are you counting with us? The 4th day of horror features this:

From one of our most important contemporary writers, The Doll-Master and Other Tales of Terror is a bold, haunting collection of six stories.

In the title story, a young boy becomes obsessed with his cousin’s doll after she tragically passes away, from leukemia.  In “Gun Accident,” a teenage girl is thrilled when her favorite teacher asks her to house-sit, even on short notice. In “Equatorial,” set in the exotic Galapagos, an affluent American wife experiences disorienting assaults upon her sense of who her charismatic husband really is, and what his plans may be for her.

In The Doll-Master and Other Tales of Terror, Joyce Carol Oates evokes the “fascination of the abomination” that is at the core of the most profound, the most unsettling, and the most memorable of dark mystery fiction.

Day 5 of Horror

After moving to a new apartment complex next to a cemetery, a young Japanese family experiences strange and terrifying occurrences that send the other residents fleeing their homes, ultimately leaving them alone with a dark, evil something, or someone, residing in the basement.   Yeah. So, there's that.

"Mariko Koike is one of the most popular writers working in Japan today.  Koike is a recognized master of detective fiction and horror writing. Known in particular for her hybrid works that blend these styles with elements of romance, this title is arguably Koike’s masterpiece. This title was originally published in Japan in 1986." - from the publisher.

"A story where humans get turned into puppets.
Horrifying, I know." - Reference Librarian Jill

Countdown the horrors with 6th day of bringing us this bewitching novel...

"The English language debut of the bestselling Dutch novel, Hex, fromThomas Olde Heuvelt--a Hugo and World Fantasy award nominated talent to watch!

Whoever is born here, is doomed to stay 'til death. Whoever settles, never leaves.

Welcome to Black Spring, the seemingly picturesque Hudson Valley town haunted by the Black Rock Witch. She walks the streets and enters homes at will. She stands next to children's bed for nights on end.

The elders of Black Spring have virtually quarantined the town to prevent their curse from spreading. Frustrated with being kept in lockdown, the town's teenagers decide to break their strict regulations and go viral with the haunting. But, in so doing, they send the town spiraling into dark, medieval practices of the distant past." - from the publisher

Okay all you girls on the train...

BOOK REVIEW

The author of “The Girl on the Train”steers away from a
couple of popular genres: “I have (shamefully)
never read any sci-fi, and I tend to avoid horror
because I’m a wimp.”
What books are currently on your night stand?
“As If,” by Blake Morrison; “The Underground Railroad,” by
Colson Whitehead; Virginia Woolf’s “A Writer’s Diary.”
I’m also listening to the audiobook of
“A Brief History of Seven Killings,” by Marlon James.
LOVE THOSE THRILLERS!
