Waiting patiently for Maleficent to hit theaters
on May 30th?

Well, author Colleen Oakes recommends these great titles to tide you over until then!

"Wicked by Gregory Maguire
The book that started it all, Wicked by Maguire is still just as cutting and relevant today as it was when it first appeared. Wicked views the land of Oz, its inhabitants, its Wizard, and the Emerald City, through a darker and greener (not rosier) lens. Even if you've seen the musical, this wickedly long book is still a compelling read.
Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce
Jackson Pearce's retellings tend to fall on the darker side, just how Grimm would have wanted it! Sisters Red is a sharply-edged retelling of Red Riding Hood that plots two sisters against werewolves and has a deeply romantic tale embedded under its action-packed skin.
Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes
The intriguing backstory for the infamous Queen of Hearts, Wonderland is twisted into a whimsical and dark place, taking Carroll's beloved characters (like the Cheshire Cat) and turning them into people with dangerous agendas. The first book in the three part saga was released on Valentine's Day, a perfect release day for a book with "Off With Their Heads" as the tagline.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
Marissa Meyer took her love of fairytales and sci-fi to create the incredible world of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. Each book follows different women (so far Cinder, Scarlet and Cress), each one inspired by fairytales, and places them in an incredible future world where androids rebel against cruel moon inhabitants in an epic saga of power and love.
Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
This dazzlingly creative retelling combines fantasy and Beauty and the Beast with the story of Nyx, a girl betrothed to the evil tyrant who rules her kingdom. Can she truly love a Beast who has enslaved her people? This intricate tale of attraction, betrayal and obligation is a must-read.
Snow White Sorrow by Cameron Jace
Book one in the Grimm Diaries, this very dark take on Snow White tells the story of a young dreamcatcher named Loki who must kill the vampire Snow White. Oh, and she happens to live in a village on the back of a whale called Sorrow. Jace's creativity and sharp wit make this a tale you won't soon forget.
The WoodCutter Sisters series by Alethea Kontis
Enchanted and Hero are the first two books in this lovely and feminine series by Alethea Kontis. Fractured fairytales are the name of the game here, and the books feature gorgeously named heroines, such as Saturday and Sunday Woodcutter, who explore the world of magic and myth. The much anticipated next book in the series,Dearest, arrives soon.
The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter
From familiar fairytales and legends -- Red Riding Hood, Bluebeard, Puss-in-Boots, Beauty and the Beast - Angela Carter has created an absorbing collection of dark, sensual, fantastic short stories that take the reader anywhere but exactly where they expect to go.
Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale
With Shannon Hale's lyrical language, this forgotten but classic fairy tale from the Brothers Grimm is re-imagined and reset in central Asia; it is a completely unique retelling filled with adventure and romance, drama and disguise, and of course, a maiden in a tower.
Of Beast and Beauty by Stacey Jay  The story of a blind princess who will be sacrificed to save her city and a man who fights to save his people from starvation, Jay's take on this romantic and classic tale is as sharp as a razor blade, cutting through per-suppositions and hearts alike. "
