Michelle McNamara's 

stunning and chilling true-crime thriller 

will get the documentary series treatment 

via HBO. 

McNamara's book follows the awful and unsolved Golden State Killer case.

Patton Oswalt wrote the afterword and 

will produce the series. 

McNamara (who was married to Oswalt) died before she could finish the book, 

but her lead researcher was one of the two people who were able to complete the project.
